Celine Dion talks with Maureen Smith

What’s the best advice you could give independent singers who are aspiring to become recording artists?

It's not easy to become a recording artist. You have to have a lot of things on your side. Obviously great songs....so if don't write your own material, you need to have someone write great songs for you. Usually, record companies are looking for something unique and special in your voice or your performance, so this is something that you'll need to have if you want to catch people's attention.

What is the best technique or tip you could give performers who have trouble with performance anxiety and stage fright?

I still get anxious before every performance...it's natural. You should find something that relaxes you...whether it's breathing, or taking time alone, or whatever. It's different for everyone, but if you love singing, just remember you're about to do something that you love...enjoy the moment.

What do you for your voice? What tips would you give vocalists to project the health of their instrument?

It's important to warm up properly. I do vocal exercises before every performance.

How do you manage to keep up so much vibrant energy, performing all the time?

Well it's what I love to do, so that's easy. I feel at home when I'm on stage. I know that I'm very fortunate to be able to do what I love, so giving 100% comes naturally.

What’s the best advice you could give to an artist trying to find a manager?

Find somebody who you can trust...this is the most important thing. Of course, they should believe in you, as much as you believe in yourself.
